Things to Know Before Your First Acupuncture Treatment:

Be ready to share your full medical history, including any current medications, allergies, and past treatments. This helps your acupuncturist create a safe and personalized plan for your care.
Dress Comfortably:

Communication is Key:
If you’re nervous about needles, or have a fear of them, let your acupuncturist know. They can adjust the technique and reassure you throughout the process.
If you feel any discomfort during treatment, such as sharp pain or significant discomfort, tell your practitioner right away so they can adjust the needles.
Treatment Length:
Your first session may last between 60 and 90 minutes, including the consultation and actual treatment. Follow-up sessions are usually shorter, typically lasting 30 to 60 minutes.
Frequency of Treatment:
For chronic or severe conditions, your acupuncturist might recommend multiple sessions over several weeks. For acute issues, fewer sessions may be necessary.
Expect Mild Side Effects:
After your first treatment, it’s normal to feel a bit more relaxed or even fatigued. Some people experience mild bruising, soreness, or slight dizziness, but these effects are temporary and typically subside within a few hours.
Contraindications:
If you are pregnant, let your acupuncturist know, as some acupuncture points should be avoided during pregnancy. Additionally, inform them if you have any bleeding disorders, are on blood-thinning medications, or have other specific health concerns.
